The Unicode symbol U+237C
(Right angle with downwards zigzag arrow) .a.k.a. the Angzarr, was included in an ISO Unicode recommendation document in year 2000 - in the section 'Miscellaneous Technical' (ref.).
Its first recorded use appears to be from the 1970s as a Monotype symbol [ ref. needed ]
Since 2002 it has been officially included as a Unicode character.
The meaning of the symbol seems to have been lost. Suggestions include the possibllity that it may have been an electrical symbol, a mathematical symbol, or a graph symbol &etc..
For a detailed summary of the search for the symbol's history, see the investigative work of Jonathan Chan (Ph.D. cand. at University of Pennsylvania).
