====== Tolmetin ====== //Tolmetin,// a.k.a. //Tolectin //is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the heterocyclic acetic acid derivative class. It was developed in the 1970's, and is used to treat conditions such as osteoarthritis, [[content:medicine:diseases:r-z:rheumatoid_arthritis]], and [[content:medicine:diseases:a-f:ankylosing_spondylitis]] Its mechanism of action is unclear.. >__The mode of action of tolmetin is not known__. However, studies in laboratory animals and man have demonstrated that the anti-inflammatory action of tolmetin is not due to pituitary-adrenal stimulation. Tolmetin inhibits prostaglandin synthetase in vitro and lowers the plasma level of prostaglandin E in man. This reduction in prostaglandin synthesis may be responsible for the anti-inflammatory action. Tolmetin does not appear to alter the course of the underlying disease in man.\\ \\ Source : [[https://go.drugbank.com/drugs/DB00500|Drugbank]] ---- Also see :[[content:medicine:drugs:paracetamol]]
