//Cannabidiol //is an extract of the Cannabis plant which was licenced in the US in 2018 for use as a treatment for various types of [[content:medicine:diseases:a-f:epilepsy]]

It's also used to treat [[content:medicine:diseases:r-z:restless_leg]] and some other movement disorders.

Despite intensive research efforts (it was first isolated in 1940) its 'mechanism of action' in successfully treating a range of neurological disorders is currently unknown.

There is still some debate about scientific proof of its efficacy in treatments of anxiety, nausea, glaucoma, chronic pain and as an anti-psychotic. Nevertheless, its use - both formally and informally - is now very widespread, and it's no longer a restricted substance in many countries.
