====== Tennis elbow ====== >Chronic lateral elbow pain (tennis elbow) is a common, frustrating, and idiopathic condition. Surgical and nonsurgical treatments are generally ineffective. __Multiple attempts have been undertaken to understand this condition without success. __Even the name of this condition is controversial depending on the presumed pathophysiology: tennis elbow, lateral epicondylitis, and lateral epicondylosis. It is completely unknown why an acute injury does not heal but instead takes up to 2 years to resolve"\\ \\ Source : [[https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6754212/| J Am Acad Orthop Surg Glob Res Rev v.3(8)]] The painful condition - a problem associated with the tendon attachments in the elbow joint - can be brought about by strenuous activity (e.g. tennis) but the majority of people who contract tennis elbow aren't involved in sports. It can flare up spontaneously, or can be triggered by injury, or repetitive work. It's technically defined as 'enthesopathy of the extensor carpi radialis brevis'.(ECRB) and evidence from MRI scans suggests that as many as 20% of the population may experience it at some stage of their lives. ---- Also see : [[content:medicine:diseases:a-f:frozen_shoulder]]
