//Arteritis// refers to a range of conditions which result in persistent inflammation of the inner lining of the arteries. Symptoms include fever, increased red blood cell count, weak pulse etc. It's potentially dangerous as it can lead to thrombosis.

The cause is largely unknown, though many cases are often preceded by infections of some kind. It's thought likely to have an auto-immune component.

Diagnosis is often missed because the symptoms can be very similar to several other diseases such as tuberculosis, syphilis, [[content/medicine/diseases/g-l/kawasaki]], [[content/medicine/diseases/a-f/behcets_disease]] etc.

There are three main types : Giant cell arteritis, Takayasu arteritis and Temporal arteritis.
